Hold the Vision, Trust the Process of Building Your Business

Do you ever get frustrated because your business isn’t to the “next level” already? I know I do.

new business ideasLike many Entrepreneurs, I’m constantly thinking about the direction I want to go—refining my marketing message, products and services to be the best they possibly can be.

This week I found myself beating myself up for not meeting an imaginary deadline for a new product launch in my business.

A deadline that if I didn’t tell you I had, no one would know I missed. Many of my clients have also struggled with this, so I wanted to share some of the mind swirl that I’ve been dealing with.

For quite a while, I’ve been noodling on an idea to combine together everything I do in a new format that I know will quickly help my clients see how all the moving parts of business plans, marketing, sales & networking fit together. I can’t wait to launch it!

I dream about it. I doodle notes about it. It’s always in the back of my mind.

I have it all sketched out, and I “just need to find the time” to put it together.

Recently I shared the idea with a Mastermind group. It was the first time I told anyone besides my husband about it. I’ve gotten great feedback, except for one comment that has stuck with me.

“Why didn’t I do it sooner?”

Ouch. While I don’t believe it was intended in a negative way, I realized this is the comment I beat myself up with all of the time.

Have you ever asked yourself the same question?

So, why haven’t I done it sooner?

First of all, I know you and I are not sitting around on the couch eating bon bons, just wasting time. We are busy with life and our businesses.

Maybe instead of focusing on something new, we’ve been getting the important foundational pieces in place for our business success. If this is the case, pat yourself on the back because you’ve figured out your priorities.

Maybe we actually have a long list of accomplishments that we should be celebrating! Our lists probably include new business opportunities and personal wins. How about we focus on what we have done!?

Maybe we have been distracted, or maybe life has gotten in the way. Success is not a straight line. It’s time we stop beating ourselves up, and then break the new level down into manageable S.M.A.R.T. goals.

When building a business, you most likely aren’t seeing all of the forward strategic progress you are making. This progress happens in our minds, with new expertise, confidence, clarity and focus.

Just because you aren’t seeing thousands of LIKES on Facebook or your bank account suddenly jump by $100,000 overnight, progress is being made. Those “missed” imaginary deadlines are necessary to allow the process to unfold. Did you just exhale? I did.

So let’s reset & refocus on your vision and process.

This week I’ve had to refocus on my accomplishments. I’m in the process of launching 5 new brands for clients!! Whoo hoo!

Celebrate your successes! Be sure to use them as example case studies, testimonials & examples when you speak with potential clients.

So am I behind? Nope.

Think about your own business. Are the “delays” actually creating a stronger foundation for success?

During this time, I’ve held the vision of my next step in the back of my mind, I’m refining the idea, even though it’s not built out in a tangible form yet. The idea is in “beta testing mode” because I’m already using components of it successfully with my clients. If I had done it a month ago, I would have changed to include things I’ve learned in the past few weeks.
