My website is setup to sell my services as a 1-time payment, multi-payments and subscriptions. I use PayPal, and I can setup your business using the methods I have implemented. Adding this to my website has been a HUGE time saver for me. I no longer have to wait for or cash checks. My payments are organized and automatically billed. It’s well-worth the small processing fee, as my sales have increased substantially.
I used to sell digital products, so I understand how complex it is. In addition to payments, you need to have a way to securely provide access to download. Putting up a link that is accessible to search engines means your hard work can be listed in Google FOR FREE. You will also need to have it automated to deliver the link ASAP. What happens if someone has a problem? You’ll need customer service available 24/7. Let’s talk about your idea… selling a cheap eBook may be a lot more complicated than you think!
This opens up a whole new can of worms! One of my clients wanted to sell a book, and she thought it would be “easy” to setup. What happens if people want multiple copies? International orders? Shipping and tax rates vary. That’s in addition to the customer service and order fulfillment issues. I advised on a solution that made the process as easy as possible. Let’s start with strategy to map out your plan.
After you get your eCommerce setup, then you’ll need a marketing plan to get customers. It’s NOT as simple as “build it and they will come.”
I highly suggest that if you are thinking about eCommerce, to START with strategy. A well-organized plan will save you a lot of time, money & energy, and help you build the right solution for your needs (or decide it’s not a good return on investment!)
For businesses just occassionly needing to process credit cards and eChecks, accepting online donations, subscriptions or even as a eCommerce payment gateway without the need for a merchant account, PayPal is an excellent choice! We’ve set up it up on multiple sites for our clients!
